Marshals - The backbone of any rally event and the nicest group of rally enthusiasts you could ever wish to meet. One such group with strong ties to the Tour of Mull is SILK Rally Radio. SILK grew out of a group of rally marshals getting tired of having to ring an ever growing number of colleagues at the last minute with event details. This then turned into a simple email contact list of eight or nine people, who then had the task of phoning the rest of the gang before events. A website soon followed and before you know it the organisation snowballed, and there are now over 900 people on the email list!
What grew out of the original email list has now expanded to provide information to other Motor Clubs, other Marshals, rally radio groups, regional MSA radio co-ordinators, licensed rescue units, licensed recovery units, and event organising teams from Scotland down to Cornwall.
When not out marshalling on The Tour of Mull, the SILK/BRMC Marshals group can nearly always be found at The Salen Hotel!
The SILK website features lots of information for the motorsport enthusiast and is well worth a visit.
