Poll: Are You Going?

Doug Weir & Duncan Brown

Jan 31,2006 by Julian Grattidge

Doug and Duncan are part of the three-car Team Browns sponsored Mull offensive. The crew first came together to compete on the 1998 Tour of Mull. However, Doug had competed three times before; in 1992 in ‘Emma’ the Escort with Gary Kennedy, and in 1994 and 1995 in ‘Norma’ the Nova with Linda Brown. Duncan has also competed in the past, tackling the 1997 event with Oban’s Murdo Morrison, so no shortage of experience between the pair.

Driver - Doug Weir

Doug is a thirty-something mechanical engineer from Hatton in Aberdeenshire. Doug's motorsport history in Minis, Escorts and Golfs has seen action on all types of events such as hillclimbs, sprints, roadrallies, autotests, autocross and stage rallies. Doug spent some two years as President of Aberdeen & DMC. Doug works for a very large oil & gas producer in Aberdeen and looks after the underwater stuff in the deep sea west of Shetland.

Navigator - Duncan Brown

Duncan is also a thirty-something mechanical engineer and works for the same oil & gas producer as Doug, but lives the high life in Paris while developing oilfields in West Africa. Originally from the Isle of Mull, Duncan has been competing (mainly in rallies) for 15 years. Doug and Duncan first met while studying guess what.... mechanical engineering at Robert Gordon's in Aberdeen. They have been competing together on stage rallies since 1998 but tackled road rallies together before then.

The Car - ‘Moira’ Ford Escort Mk2 2000

Moira was built in 2004 by Auchmaud Motorsport from a road-going 2-door shell. Engine - Engine is modified Vauxhall 16v built by Billy Falconer. Built for torque and reliability, running a throttle body kit and producing approx 240 bhp.

Gearbox - Quaiife Alloy 5-speed dog box, 5.1 LSD.

Suspension - McPherson strut’s front, turreted 5-linked rear

Brakes - BIG!

Wheels & Tyres - 15" wheels all round running Dunlop slicks (X12, X19 or X22 depending on the weather!)
